confessions of musical nobody: tues 17th april - urban wood

i was expecting a quiet tuesday eve, only fighting off the tumbleweeds for somewhere to sit but this wasn't too bad a gig all round, compared to the two previous efforts at the 'urban wood' which had less punters than staff behind the bar on both sorry occasions, there were no less than 14 people crammed into the little musical area. i must point out that this kind of establishment is asking to be shut down and replaced by a corner shop selling crisps, cokes and fags, during such times of austerity with its almost-4-pound-a-pint asking prices and emphasis on food. they ll be needing more than RLD playin there on a tuesday to get the requisite punters in - someone more along the lines of mumford and sons maybe who wld attract the toffier, cash rich type of fan...anyways, back to the gig. i had had a pint of (£ 3.90) stowford before gettin up and doin the dance, and just managed to sneak in a can of extra strength orangeboom into my now empty pint glass whilst watchin pete taylor a s/s from the gloucestershire wilds (Dursley no less) who was actually rather impressive and was loop pedalled up which seems to be an increasingly popular way of expanding the one man band sound... note to self - consider investing in one...oh and an amp to play it through too. our comparatively stripped down (punk?) set up and performance went well considering i was too lazy to bring the better of my guitars to perform, expecting the wood to be more of a scattering of trees, God knows how2 it sounded up front tho as the strings on 'ol' Lucy' have been hammered a bit lately. cat was on the mark with her vocals  as ever and the punters seemed relatively engaged. i d have liked to have trudged up the hill home shortly after but we stayed on til 11 so as to satisy mark venus (promoter guy's)   implied stipulation that acts don't just perform their 30 mins and fuck off with barely a bye you leave. this didnt work in our favor as we encountered a friendly travelling aussie behind the bar who gave us free wine til midnite meaning cat stumbling back home and a late school nite...
we get paid the risible £5 for this shit, but what de we expect? is it ever gonna happen...i think deep down i know the answer to that one.

another nite's work over..hmmm.
